Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa tested positive for COVID-19, on April 16. The report came out hours after he conducted a meeting with the state officials to discuss COVID situation in Karnataka. He requested those who have come in close contact with him recently to exercise self-quarantine. Notably, the 78-year-old CM had tested positive for the first time in August 2020.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath has announced a weekly Sunday lockdown in the state, where only essential services and activities will be permitted. He has issued an order imposing fines on people who fail to wear masks. The fine amount is said to be Rs 1,000 for the first-time offenders and Rs 10,000 for the repeaters. Reportedly, a night curfew from 7 PM to 8 AM has also been enforced in 10 districts.
The government has now simplified the process of issuing Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cards. According to the new rule, an individual registered as an OCI cardholder after turning 20 does not need a new card on the issue of a fresh passport. Notably, the old rule required the re-issuing of passports after an individual turns 50 citing facial changes due to old age.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala and former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh have tested positive for Covid-19 on April 16. Taking to Twitter, Surjewala informed about his health and requested everyone who came in contact to isolate and take necessary precautions. Meanwhile, Congress MP and former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh also tweeted that he is under self-isolation at his home in Delhi after testing positive.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari was seen flouting the Covid-19 protocols during his Barrackpore rally, on April 15, as he placed himself atop a truck mask-less between the heavy crowd. When asked about the protocol breach, Tiwari said that "as someone comes close to me I will wear it (mask)". However, in his tweet featuring the rally's video, he urged people to follow the Covid-19 guidelines.

Ramanand Sagar's epic mythological show Ramayan, first telecasted in 1987-1988, is all set for its re-telecast on Television. Reportedly, the show will be aired on Star Bharat at 7 pm every day. Taking to Instagram, Dipika Chikhlia who played the role of Sita stated "so excited to share that Ramayan will be airing on the small screens again this year."
Indian capital Delhi, with a single-day spike of 17,282 cases, on April 14 has surpassed Mumbai to become the worst affected city in India. Delhi also recorded over 100 COVID-19 deaths in the same period. Reportedly, the city has witnessed a 234% increment in new cases from April 4-13. Delhi will currently undergo a weekend lockdown from 10 pm on April 16 to 5 am on April 19.
The Election Commission of India on April 15 gave notice to BJP leader Sayantan Basu following inflammatory remarks over the Cooch Behar CRPF firing incident at a poll rally in Baranagar. The remarks were in violation of the model code of conduct and provisions of the Representation of the People Act. In addition, the body gave a deadline of 24 hours to explain his stand.
