104-Year-Old Man Who Hoped Receiving Indian Citizenship Passes Away
Struggling to assert Indian citizenship, 104-year-old Chandradhar Das from Assam’s Cachar District passed away on December 13. Chandradhar, who was declared ‘foreigner’ by the Foreigners’ Tribunal, hoped to receive citizenship through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019. Reportedly, he held a refugee registration certificate from 1966 mentioning him as a Bangladesh-born but went unverified by Tripura government. Detained in Silchar camp, the centenarian was recently released on health grounds.
