1,040 Militants Surrender Before Assam CM Sonowal
Militants of five outfits, including PDCK top leader Ingti Kathar Songbijit and 1,039 others, surrendered in Assam on February 23. Songbijit, the former commander-chief of the banned National Democratic Front of Boroland, had been involved in massacres across the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts. Surrendering in presence of Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, the militants laid down 338 weapons, including 58 AK-series rifles. Notably, the government will also sign a peace agreement with the militant groups.
