13 Parties Face Charges Over New Zealand's White Island Disaster
Concluding the investigation, New Zealand’s health authorities have laid charges against 13 parties over the December 2019 volcanic disaster on the White Island. The authorities have charged them for overlooking health and safety measures. Active since 2011, the White Island's sudden eruption on December 9, 2019 had surprised everyone as it killed 22 people including some tourists. Some 47 people, mostly from Australia and the US, were on the island when it erupted.
