30-Min OTT Stream In HD Emits CO2 Equal To 6 KM Car Drive: Study

Streaming OTT platforms in HD for 30 minutes emits as much CO2 as a 6-km car drive, revealed a report by the UK's Royal Society. Claiming that HD streaming is eight times bigger emitter than the standard definition (SD), the scientists suggested platforms and regulators to limit resolution to check carbon footprints. While the study cited Netflix in its paper, Netflix has denied the findings saying one-hour streaming emits less than 100 gm of CO2.
