40% of Amazon Rainforests May Turn into Grassland-Type Ecosystem: Study

In a recent study, Europe-based scientists have hinted that nearly 40% of Amazon rainforests could transform into Savanna-like grasslands. The study cited reduction in rainfall due to the greenhouse-gas emissions as the reason for this. While the shrinking forest-cover will be unable to absorb the increasing carbon emissions, it also poses risk of fires, the report added. The researchers used atmospheric data to infer how tropical forest will react to dipping rain-levels.
