55 Years Ago! September 8 Was Declared As International Literacy Day
In 1966, September 8 was declared as the International Literacy Day (ILD) at the 14th session of UNESCO's General Conference. However, the pandemic has only brought 'polarity' in the field of education more prevalent across the world. The theme for ILD 2021 is "Literacy for a human-centered recovery: Narrowing the Digital Divide." "As we celebrate International Literacy Day... the right to dream and be free," Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director-General said.
