ARIES Scientists Find Low Ozone Layer over Brahmaputra Valley

Researchers at ARIES, Nainital, found low concentration of Tropospheric ozone level over Guwahati, in Brahmaputra valley. Surface-level ozone is created by a reaction between oxides of Nitrogen and Volatile organic compounds. A study revealed that this increases when malignant emissions from vehicles, power and chemical plants, boilers, etc chemically react to sunlight. Seasonal and daily assessments suggested the site in photo-stationary state, pointing to low impact of organic species on ozone concentrations.
