Banaglore Riots: 3 Killed, 100 Arrested and 60 Police Personnel Injured
Bangalore witnessed violent protests and mob attacks on August 12. A mob of 1000 people gathered outside MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy and his sister's house, on a derogatory facebook post on Prophet Mohammed allegedly shared by his nephew, P Naveen. The mob started pelting stones and set the house on fire.
According to Suvarna News, A massive mob, rushed into Naveen's house, with rods and stones. The family said that they locked all the entries, went to the terrace, and jumped to the next building to save themselves. The angry mob vandalized the house, allegedly stole all the money, then set the house of fire.
Section 144 of CrPC was imposed across the city along with a larger police unit deployed to take charge of the situation. The riot led to police using tear gas and lathi-charge, to bring the situation under control. Police had to shoot three rioters, 60 police personnel were injured and over 100 arrests were made.
