Belarus Protests Demanding President's Resignation Continue; Over 700 Detained
Amid ongoing protests, Belarusian government arrested over 700 protestors on October 11, mostly pensioners and some already facing court-hearings. The opposition-led protestors have been protesting since August, alleging President Alexander Lukashenko of rigging the elections. Reportedly, the opposition leader Tsikhanouskaya has also asked for sanctions by US and EU on Lukashenko and his supporters. Earlier, authorities had detained over 40 journalists for covering the protests.
