Besides humans, 36 active, intelligent civilisations could exist in Milky way: Study

A new study by the University of Nottingham suggests of a possibility of nearly 36 active, communicating, intelligent civilizations existing in Milky Way galaxy. The assumption was made considering it takes 5 billion years for intelligent life to develop and if the survival times of civilisations are long, as our own. 

Since the average distance to these civilisations is 17,000 light-years, communication is not possible, at present.
