Bihar Man Cultivates World's Most Costliest Crop 'Hop Shoots'
Amresh Singh, a farmer from Karamdih village of Bihar’s Aurangabad, is going places by cultivating the world’s most expensive crop, ‘hop-shoots’ (humulus-lupulus). While one kilogram of the uncommon vegetable costs Rs 1 lakh, it has potential to boost farmers’ earnings tenfold. Reportedly, the fruit, flower, and stem of the crop can also be used to produce beverages alongside antibiotics remedying Tuberculosis. Moreover, the humulones and lupulones acid present in its shoots can eliminate cancer cells.
