BJP Leader on MLA's Death, Demands CBI Intervention, Accuses the State: West Bengal
Somnath Banerjee, South Kolkata President of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), while talking to Brifly about the killing of MLA Debendra Nath Ray said that BJP will not rest until Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) takes over the inquiry as they have trust issues with the state-operated Criminal Investigation Department (CID). "About 105 party members have lost their lives before. There have been no results nor arrests on those cases, so we don't want to leave anything up to the state," said Banerjee.
When asked about the arrests that have occurred, he replied, "That is just to show off that the CID is working." The BJP Leader then added, "If he wanted to die by suicide, why would he do it few kilometres away from his residence? Bengal is a poor state, who doesn't have a financial crisis in today's time? The man was an MLA and he had his salary. Claim of Suicide has been just painted over the truth."
Banerjee alleged that the police proclaimed it was death by suicide before sending the body for Post-Mortem, and that the suicide note needs to be examined as to whether the writing matches with that of the deceased.
