Brazil: 28 Killed In Police Shootout, Residents Allege Abuse Against Unarmed
At least 28 people including one police officer were killed in a police shootout with drug traffickers on May 7 in Jacarezhino slum of Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro. Indicating an investigation into the incident, the Supreme Court worried over 'arbitrary execution' and human rights abuses. Reportedly, the shootout occurred over reports of drug traffickers recruiting teenagers. Residents complained of abuse as they allegedly witnessed unarmed people shot by police.
