BRO Constructs World's Highest Motorable Road In Eastern Ladakh
At 19,300 ft in Umlingla Pass of Eastern Ladakh, the Border Road Organization (BRO) has constructed and black-topped the 'highest motorable road' in the world. The 52-km Asphalt concrete road will connect important towns in the Chumar sector of Eastern Ladakh and an alternate direct route connecting Chisumle and Demchok from Leh. It is a great challenge to develop infrastructure in such harsh weather conditions, the defense ministry stated.
