Cabinet Approves East-West Metro Corridor in Kolkata, New Schemes Announced
Commerce and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on October 7 informed that the cabinet had approved the East-West Metro corridor project for Kolkata city. Speaking about the outcomes of the cabinet meeting, the ministers said that the metro project with an estimated budget of Rs 8575 crore is expected to be completed by December 2021. Minister Javadekar mentioned that a Memorandum of Co-operation has been signed with Japan to exchange ideas and technologies on cyber security. He also mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Canada for barcoding of the faunal genome. Javadekar further added that a public campaign will be started by the government to raise awareness on the COVID precautionary behaviour.
