Central Government Bans Export of All Varieties of Onions
The Union government on September 14 prohibited the export of all varieties of onions with immediate effect. The decision comes amid surge in the prices of onion due to its less availability in the domestic retail market. Reportedly, this year' heavy rains have hit the onion production badly. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) informed, "The export of all varieties of onions... is prohibited, with immediate effect."
