Donald Trump Becomes First US President To Be Impeached Twice
Following the US Capitol riots and subsequent developments, Donald Trump on January 13 became the first US President to be impeached twice. Amid heavy security deployment at the Capitol, the house voted 232-197 to impeach Trump, twice within 13 months. Notably, 10 Republicans had also supported the impeachment process, holding Trump responsible for the Capitol seize. The US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Trump "a clear and present danger to the nation" and said he "Must Go". The demand to impeach Trump had grown after the violent Capitol protests, wherein the pro-Trump mob stormed Capitol Hill and degraded the democratic presence of the US. After being impeached, Trump has joined Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton who were the only two impeached US Presidents. Trump's earlier impeachment was on January 16, 2020 over abuse of power wherein he allegedly attempted to secure unfair help from Ukraine in order to get himself re-elected. Interestingly, many social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, have already digitally impeached Trump for his contentious posts and false claims.
