Editors Guild Demand Dignified Treatment For Arrested Journo Siddique Kappan
Following the reports of inhuman treatment with arrested journalist Siddique Kappan, the Editors Guild of India on April 26 expressed its grief while demanding a fair trial in his case. The Editors Guild’s stand came day after Siddique's wife alleged the authorities of tying him to a bed, thereby not even allowing him to access toilet. Expressing concerns regarding his health, the guild also recalled Supreme Court's silence in the matter. Moreover, the body condemned the mishappening and reiterated about protecting journalistic enterprises. Earlier, EGI even penned a letter to UP CM Yogi Adityanath while shedding light on journalists, who have been the victim of persecution and assaults. Meanwhile, EGI has urged the government to provide Siddique Kappan with medication. Notably, Kappan in is custody since October 2020, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for attempting to report on rape and death of a dalit girl in UP’s Hathras.
