Engineers' Day: Growth in Technological Education Makes India A Global Leader
September 15 is celebrated as Engineers' Day in India in honour of Sir M. Visvesvaraya's contributions. However, the scenario of technical education in the country has changed over time. The AICTE's data suggest that country has grown as an engineers' hub with over 6,000 educational institutes offering engineering and related courses. According to All India Survey on Higher Education report, around 40,34,375 students enrolled to engineering and related courses in 2018-19 with about 9,05,580 student getting passed. Besides, in 2007, India had only seven Indian Institute of Technology ( IITs) but the number has increased to 23 now. The QS World University Rankings also showed Indian institutes ranking almost as high as global universities in the engineering and technological domain. In fact, five Indian technological institutes have entered top-100 list. Apart from development in technological education, India has also emerged as a global industry leader in providing software services.
