Environmentalists Protest Germany's Extension Of Coal Excavation policy
Anti-coal protestors in western Germany on September 26, surrounded a mine, criticising government's plan to extend coal mining. The agitation surfaced as Germany allowed extraction and burning of coal until 2038. Environmental activists stated that the extended deadline is too late to control climate change. Protestors also opposed levelling of some villages for coal mining near Cologne city. Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that the government has increased renewable energy production for sustainability.
