Excessive Tamarind In Odisha Triggers Sharp Drop In Price
The excessive production of tamarind (imli) in Odisha has led to a sharp decline in price, putting the tribals in a difficult position. The MSP is set at Rs. 3,600/ per quintal but the states decision to buy only 1,000 quintals have led to disarray. The tribals are too eager to sell off the excess that they are now selling it to businessmen and middlemen at a much lower rate.
