Busting common myths, competitive weightlifter and personal trainer Sara Carr said lifting heavy weights is safe for women if done properly. Sara added that even pregnant women with experience and proper guidance could lift weights. Moreover, she stated weightlifting might turn women bulky, but that does not happen overnight as building muscle takes longer than losing fat. Besides, she told women can lose weight via weightlifting as it increases basal metabolic rate.
