FCI Urges Punjab To Provide Land Records; Eyes Direct Transfer Of MSP
The Punjab office of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has asked the director of civil supplies and consumer affairs to furnish the land records of farmers. By making direct online transfer of MSP to farmers' bank accounts, the Centre has been considering to remove middlemen. However, the Arhtiya Association of Punjab have challenged this move in court. Reportedly, the Centre pays around Rs 1,400-crore commission annually to arhtiyas/agents who facilitate crop procurement from farmers.
