Goa Boy Utilises Lockdown To Emerge As India's 67th Chess Grandmaster
A 14-year-old boy from Goa utilised the lockdown in such an effective manner that he has emerged as India's 67th chess Grandmaster. Due to COVID-induced lockdown, Leon Mendonca and his father were stuck in Europe since March. Taking it as an opportunity, Mendonca competed in many competitions aiming GM title. He won his 1st GM norm at the Rigo Chess GM Round Robin; the second in Budapest; and the last at the Vergani Cup, Italy.
