Govt Approves 850 MW Ratle Power Project On Chenab River In J&K
Despite Pakistan’s objection, the Centre on January 20 approved the 850-megawatt Ratle hydro-power project on the river Chenab in J&K. The project was long-pending for the go-ahead as former PM Manmohan Singh had laid its foundation in 2013 but the Pakistan government citing breach of the Indus Water Treaty approached the World Bank against it. The project, to be completed within five years, aims to provide free electricity worth Rs 5,289 crore to J&K.
