Govt Writes To WhatsApp CEO, Asks Withdrawal Of Privacy Update
The Indian government on January 19 asked WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart to scrap the controversial privacy policy update. In a January 19 letter, the IT Ministry emphasised on the vulnerabilities of Indians due to security risk and warned WhatsApp of sharing sensitive data with Facebook. It also denounced WhatsApp's ‘accept-the-terms-or-leave-the-platform’ stance saying it "betrays a lack of respect for the rights and interests” of Indians as the company's European users did not have such condition.
