Researchers from New York University Abu Dhabi found higher cortisol levels in the hair of mothers and children. These families from Jordan & Syria bore the brunt of the pandemic the most, which is evident from their higher hair cortisol concentrations. Cortisol is a stress hormone released during fight-or-flight situations indicative of reducing current activity. The study is published in Child Development Journal signals towards a global mental health pandemic.
