IAU Certifies 18 New Asteroid Discoveries Made By Indian Students

The International Astronomical Union has informed that Indian school students have discovered 18 asteroids through a global science programme. Conducted under NASA's citizen science project, the programme was a collective effort by STEM, ‘Space’, and International Astronomical Search Collaboration. Reportedly, the students used advanced software analysis and located 372 preliminary asteroids, of which 18 got certification. At least 150 Indian students joined the programme in last two years making it India’s largest asteroid discovery project.
