ICAR admits: No recent research on locusts, wake-up call

There hasn't been much "systematic research" on desert locusts in India since the early 1990s and the current swarm invasions are a wake-up call to "restart and revive the programme", said Trilochan Mohapatra, Director-General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). "As [there were no] swarm incursions after 1997, the focus shifted to other more regular field pests," he added.
