Inactivity, Obesity, High BP More Prevalent In Urban Indians: ICMR
The Indian Council of Medical Research, in its national non-communicable disease survey, has indicated that 51.7% urban adults are physically inactive, in contrast to 36.1% rural adults. Among 10,569 people (aged between 18-69 years) surveyed, prevalence of obesity and overweight in urban areas was 11.2% and 42.5% respectively against for rural areas' 3.7% and 18%. The report also suggested that high blood pressure was more common in urban residents (34%) than the rural ones (25.7%).
