Marathi film ‘The Disciple’, directed by Chaitanya Tamhane, has won the 'Best Screenplay' award at the 77th Venice Film Festival. The movie has been hailed as a landmark moment in Indian cinema by celebrities including Swara Bhasker, Manoj Bajpayee, and director Anurag Kashyap. After 'Monsoon Wedding' in 2001, 'The Disciple' became the first Indian film in 20 years to win in a major category at a European festival.
