Indian Govt Plans To Amend Smoking Age From 18 To 21 Years
Drafting the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Amendment Act, 2020, the Indian government has been planning on increasing the legal age of smoking from 18 to 21 years. The bill proposes to ban designated smoking rooms in restaurants and airports as well as increase penalties for rule-violation in public areas. The government have sought to ban loose cigarettes and penalize seven years jail-term with Rs 1 lakh fine for selling tobbaco to underaged citizens.
