Indian Navy Gets Its Fifth Scorpene Class Submarine 'Vagir'
Defence Minister Shripad Naik launched the Indian Navy's fifth Scorpene class submarine 'Vagir' on November 12, at the Mazagon Dock, Mumbai. Vagir is the fifth of the six Kalvari-class submarines, being designed by French naval defence and DCNS under Project-75. Officials claimed that the vessel can tackle anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare along with performing intelligence, mine laying, and surveillance missions. The previously commissioned Scorpene class submarines are INS Kalvari, Khanderi, Karanj and Vela.
