Indian-Origin Pritam Singh Becomes Singapore's First Opposition Leader

An Indian-origin politician in Singapore, Pritam Singh, on August 31 became the country's first opposition leader. Singh's party won 10 of the 93 contested seats in the General Election on July 10, and created history by becoming the biggest opposition in the country. While underlining the importance of foreigners, Singh said, "Their presence gives Singapore a vitality that keeps us economically relevant... provides jobs and opportunities to our fellow Singaporeans."
