India's First Thunderstorm Research Testbed To Be Set Up In Odisha
The IMD is planning to build the country’s first thunderstorm research testbed in Odisha’s Balasore in collaboration with Earth Science ministry, DRDO and ISRO. The IMD’s Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the test facility would help to reduce the loss of life and property due to lightning strikes. ‘Cyclone Man of India’ Mrutyunjay also revealed first-of-its-kind monsoon testbed coming near Bhopal. Reportedly, over 350 people die every year in Odisha due to lightning strikes.
