Initial Survey Reveals Tapovan Dam Totally Washed Off After Avalanche
The Tapovan Hydroelectric Power Project, located at convergence of the Dhauliganga and Rishiganga river was completely washed off following the flash flood in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. While the initial reconnaissance witnessed collapse of two bridges near the entrance of Malari valley and Tapovan, and the main road between Joshimath-Tapovan was found intact. Moreover, NTPC also claimed damage in the parts of its Tapovan Vishnugad plant as the avalanche affected downstream, low lying villages.
