Karnataka Govt Asks To Forego BPL Card, If One Owns TV, 2-Wheeler
Redefining the definition of Below Poverty Line criteria, the Karnataka government on February 15 asked the people to forego their BPL card benefits if they own a two-wheeler, TV, fridge or five-acre land. Besides, the state’s civil supplies ministry asked people earning Rs 1,20,000 annually to return BPL cards before March 31 or face legal action. Reacting to the development, Congress leaders staged protests in front of ration shops calling the government “anti-poor.”
