Kolkata: CPI(M) Workers Burn Tyres, Raise "Azadi" Slogans On Bharat Bandh
Even though West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has said that her government does not support the 'December 8 Bharat Bandh' called by farmers protesting against the Centre's farm laws, parts of the state witnessed disturbances in daily life. In Kolkata, some CPI(M) workers blocked roads and burned tyres in a symbolic support to the Bharat Bandh. While holding the party flag, the workers raised slogans in Bengali and said that "Bandh is going on and it will go on". They also endorsed Kanhaiya Kumar's signature slogan and shouted "hum leke rahenge Azadi". However, the city police was also present at the site where the workers were protesting. Earlier, the ruling TMC has said that it support the farmers' protest against the farm laws but it does not extend support to the Bharat Bandh.
