Lankan Navy Seeks Aid from India as Oil Vessel 'MT New Diamond' Catches Fire

Ship carrying crude oil has encountered fire and explosion in east coast of Sri lanka. Lankan Navy has requested assistance from the Indian Coast Guards. Following this, ICG has diverted ships and aircraft for fire fighting on the carrier: ‘MT New Diamond’. The carrier with over 2 lakh metric ton cargo sailing from Kuwait was to reach Paradip port on September 5. Reportedly, fire is likely to cause environmental damages.
