Madras HC Asks TN Govt To Create Elephant Ownership Policies
The Madras High Court has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to create a uniform policy towards elephant ownership owing to their exploitation. Further, the court suggested ensuring all private and temple-owned elephants should come under the Forest Department, meanwhile ban the private ownership of elephants completely. Moreover, listening to the petition of a Srirangam temple devotee against elephant exploitation, the court added that offenders "must be dealt with promptly and mercilessly."
