Maharashtra: Biomedical Wastes Surge While Environment Parameters Improve
Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) reported an unusual rise by 45% in biomedical waste, during the pandemic. However, the air parameters improved by 60% and biochemical oxygen demand recovered by nearly 80%. The collection and disposal of biomedical-waste was also doubled. Besides, MPCB assured that the segregation and disposal was done safely. Reportedly, termination of industrial and vehicular activity, and drop in energy-demand were the main reasons for the improvements.
