Mumbai Police Launches Month-Long Drive To Make City 'Beggar Free'
In a unique month-long drive to make the city ‘beggar free,’ the Mumbai Police has directed all police stations to track and accommodate beggars at a special home in Chembur. Terming begging a social crime, the drive aims to curb the children forced into begging. However, social activists have questioned the feasibility of eradicating begging through the drive. Reportedly, the directions were made under the Bombay Prevention of Begging Act 1959.
