New Zealand Bats For Carbon Neutral Govt, Declares Climate Emergency
New Zealand has declared a climate emergency while pledging to make its public sector carbon-neutral by 2025. With this commitment, it joined the club of Japan, Canada, France and Britain who have already declared climate emergency. It also set aside $141 million fund to replace coal boilers with electric ones. New Zealand's PM Jacinda Ardern said the decision was in accordance with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's recommendations to avoid 1.5 degree temperature rise.
