Odisha Forest Officer Bags UN Award For Environmental Protection
Odisha forest officer Sasmita Lanka has become the first Indian official to get awarded by the United Nation's coveted Asia Environmental Enforcement Award. Sasmita, a DFO at Cuttack district, was recognised under the 'Gender Leadership and Impact' category. She was felicitated for her efforts in busting a 28-member international racket of pangolin smugglers. Currently posted as the Bhubaneshwar DFO, Lanka also conducted awareness programmes to enlighten villagers about the nearly extinct species.
