Opposition likely to unite in House against electricity amendment bill

Several states say, the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill, undermines IndiaÔÇÖs federal structure and attempts to privatise distribution will take away the autonomy. Parties such as the Congress, TRS, DMK and some Left parties have opposed the bill. Several states, including Telangana, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, have alleged the amendments will take away the autonomy of state-owned discoms and state electricity regulators.
