Over 6 Lakh Citizens Took Forgein Citizenship in 2017: Ministry of External Affairs

As many as 6,08,162 Indians acquired foreign citizenship in 2017, with the majority going to the USA (United States of America,) followed by Australia and Canada. The Rajya Sabha was informed that citizens gave up their Indian citizenship due to personal reasons. According to the 2017 data, 50,803 Indians sought citizenship in the US, 20,669 in Australia and 17,372 in Canada, reported the Ministry of External Affairs.
