Periyar Statue Dishonoured, Party Members Protest: Coimbatore, TN

At the dawn of July 17 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, unidentified people dishonored the statue of Periyar EV Ramasamy; commonly referred to as "Father of The Dravidian Movement", by throwing saffron paint on the statue. After the members of the 'Periyar Dravida Kazhagam' party staged protest near the statue, the police issued statement saying, "The statue has been cleaned. We will take action against the miscreants."
