Rahat Indori, a Man who Lived in Couplets
Celebrated Urdu Poet Rahat Indori, aged 70, who tested positive for Covid-19, passed away on August 11 at Indore's Aurobindo Hospital in Madhya Pradesh, after suffering two heart attacks. Rahat Qureshi, later known as Rahat Indori, was a Bollywood lyricist and urdu language poet. Rahat gave lyrics to more than eleven Bollywood films including blockbuster 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S'. Before poetry, he used to be a painter who painted Bollywood posters. He was also a former professor of Urdu language.
Rahat Indori was also a recognized Urdu poet internationally. He used to perform in Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan since almost 40-45 years and had traveled globally to recite his poetry. He wrote poems in a very simple and lucid language, and was known to recite his couplets in an expressive style. His poem named "Bulati hai Magar Jaane Ka Nahi'' got viral on Tiktok in February 2020. After his death, many of his couplets became relevant.
