On July 11, Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi had called a virtual meeting between the members of the party to discuss the political developments, where some party members demanded Rahul Gandhi's return as party president. According to the reports, Rahul Gandhi remained silent on the matter. The demand was first raised by Kerala MP Kodikunnil Suresh and it was supported by six other Congress MPs.
